With the expansion of authority created by Cal/OSHA in the regulations of the Illness and Injury Prevention Program, the amendment to read “competent person” is crucial as presented in recent Cal/OSHA’s IIPP orientation conferences. Cal/OSHA criteria, and not arguable, states that if a promoted supervisor or foreman with no appropriate training, education and experience is assigned the safety responsibility for overseeing a working group, and he is allowed to work with employees under company safety rules, then the supervisor is considered not competent.

To solve this problem, I believe it is necessary to certify company supervisors and managers as competent persons. 3) I visually analyze supervisors activities on-the-job to identify faulty behavior and organizational skills and recommend further training sessions on a quarterly basis.

4) I administer certification with proper documentation and train your supervisors to conduct effective safety meetings and inspections.

5) And, there is more as a bonus, MSDS preparation and revision, permits and emergency response preparation, monthly inspections, employee training and employee safety meetings.
